Fix the problem of Photos app not working on Windows 10

The new Windows Photos app (actually from Windows 8, but still the latest integrated image viewer) has a nice interface and rich image filtering options. However sometimes it happens that the error is not working and this is how to fix it.

Note: Before following these troubleshooting steps, you need to run run-time to check for corrupt system files on Windows 10. To perform a check, open Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow and start the command . back to windows.

1. Reset the Photos app

Resetting the Photos app will clear the application cache and reset all data to the default settings.

To reset, right-click the Start menu and go to ” Apps and Features “. Next, scroll down to click on ” Photos ” in the list, then click on ” Advanced options “, and in the next window, click on ” Reset “. This will delete all data from the Photos app, including any presets or saved images, to their original state.

2. Delete and reinstall the Photos app

If that does not fix the problem, you should try removing the Photos app manually and then reinstalling it. However, you can not do this through the ” Apps and Feature ” list as with other common applications. Instead, you need to use an advanced PowerShell command.

Click the Start menu, type powershell, then right-click PowerShell and select ” Run as administrator.” In the Powershell window type the following:

get-appxpackage *Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | remove-appxpackage

After pressing Enter, the Photos app will be deleted. To reinstall it, go to the Microsoft Store app, search for “Photos“, then select and install the Photos app (note, the developer of Photos application is “Microsoft Corporation”).

3. Perform system restore

If you know of a problem with the Photos app, you can do a restore before the problem occurred.

Go to the Start menu , type restore and then click on “Create a restore point “. In the new window click on ” System Restore ” and then follow the prompts until you select a restore point. Select the time before the crash and continue the process.

4. Use Windows Photo Viewer

or a lot of people, the old Windows Photo Viewer works very well. Although it is not as flashy as “Photos”, it works well and provides easy access to photos in folders.

Microsoft has gradually removed Photo Viewer, however, if there is a computer with pre-installed Windows 10, you can set Photo Viewer as the default application. View Windows Photo Retrieval Windows 10 Viewer for faster, slower photos!  To know how to use it on Windows 10.
